Introduction

                        We are one of the oldest civilization in the World. Our rich heritage has been attaracting the attention of the whole world since time immemorial. May it be the knowledge centres like the Nalanda or Taxila universities or the natural resources like the Spices, Ayurvedic medicines or the Spiritual heritage like Yoga. Also we had a living tradition of Science and Technology imbibed in our culture. But due to various reasons which turmoil our life (like foreign invasion), we lost them gradually. But still many of them remains with us in forms of daily practice, written text, acheological remains.

                        In the field of Science and Technology our ancestors were at the zenith. We were having a rich tradition of medical science well described in Ayurveda. Like this we had excelled in Technology too. We are having the Artha Veda or Shilpa Veda as the Technology book describing our ancient tecnical works. This is present in the form of 10  Shilpa Shastras, 32 Shilpa Vidyas and 64 Shilpa Kalas. Vimana Vidya (Science of Aeronautics) is also one out of the 32 Vidyas.

Why to Study Ancient Vimana Vidya (when the present aviation technology has reached the top)

Contrast to the present day aviation technology we had a more superior technology having following advantages-

1-    Eco-friendly – Our aircraft was not polluting the enviroment contrary to the present one as the energy source for our technology was either the nature or some natural element not harming mother nature, i.e. Green Technology or Sustainable Technology.

2-    Metallurgy – We had differnt types of materials possesing different characteristics, all derived from the natural sources.

3-    Navigation – Our navigation system was such that both air travel and space travel with zero accident was possible.
